The bulldogs had many great back pockets and Gordon Casey may have been the best that I have seen.

Footscray

Western Bulldogs He had marvellous ball sense and marked everything that came his way. Great judgement. He took on the resting rover in the forward pocket to keep in goal-less.

He teamed very well with full-back David Darcy, they were a formidable combination. He was originally a full-forward in his younger days. Also teamed well with Gary Merrington.

He played cricket in the Footscray District League and I remember playing against him.

Akermanis credits "Mr C", as he calls him, as the junior coach who most influenced him. Mr C insisted Aker use both sides of his body right from the start. Aker remains in contact with him and visits from time to time.
