He was a regular and reliable half-back flanker. He held down the right half-back flank position. What was the attraction of number 49 for Brian Cordy so that he would hang onto it when he would have been entitled to a much smaller number? His brother Neil also played for the Bulldogsx
Brian Cordy was an excellent half back flanker and in 1985 he was just sensational. I have a tape of a game against Essendon where he just ripped them apart. Turned defence into attack very quickly. We kicked 10 goals in one Q in that match.
Also had a couple of other brothers who played for the club called Roger and Graeme, as well as Neil. Roger, a rangy CHF, took the mark of the day in his first match for the club at the MCG V Richmond. Brian did a knee in a practice match in '86 at Skinner reserve which had a bit to do with our slide down the ladder after our great season in '85. He missed the whole season, Hawkins also did a knee that season and was out for 12 months.
Many think that Brian was the best of the 4 brothers because of his consistency. He gave us some great run out of the backline. His kicking a bit iffy, but the drive out of defence was sensational.
Coached the Geelong Falcons from 1996 to 1999.
