     Was picked up early in the National Draft as Fitzroy folded up and merged with Brisbane. He was one of Fitzroy's best players and great pickup for the Bulldogs.  
         
     Played on the half back flank and attacked into the forward line when he got the ball.  
         
     Remember that day when he had a shot for goal and the ball clearly missed to the other side of the goal post by about the length of your arm. And the umpire gave it as a goal. Remember the expression on Matthew's face after the shot for goal when he missed and then again when the umpie gave it as a goal. The opposition whinged and complained about it but got nowhere. Ha Ha Ha. That was one that we got back. Good goal that Matthew! Always cheers me up thinking about that one.    
         
     Picked up by Hawthorn in the 2001 pre season draft as pick 8, for whom he played 8 games in 2001, then went to Adelaide and played for Sturt.
