Vice Captain 1879, Captain 1880. |
|
|
In his day the game would start with teams in opposite
halves and the captain licking off from the centre. Probably by a place kick
with the ball placed in cap. |

He was captain when the club changed its name to 'Prince
Imperials Football Club' in 1880. In 1879 in the Zulu wars Prince Louis
Napolean, heir to the throne of France was killed and the club was renamed
in honour of him. During the battle, apparently the Prince was unhorsed and
he fought the Zulus hand to hand until he was killed. |
