Recruited Pick #27, 2nd pick overall 1994 Pre-season Draft from Eastern U18
Honours Ken Farmer Medal for the most goals in the SANFL in 2002. Was in the 2002 SANFL State squad.
Played CHF, thought he was going to be a star. Traded to
Fremantle in
1997 for draft choice 18 for which we picked up Mark Alvey. Played 3 games for
them, kicking no goals. Played for South Fremantle and was a star forward.
Played for North Adelaide in 1998 where in 2000 he won the Harold MacFarlane
Memorial for the most Magarey Medal Votes in the club and won the Leading
Goalkicker Award.
From Powelltown the same saw milling town as Sean Charles. He excelled with the
Eastern Ranges as a centre half forward. He had a talent for contested marks and
an ability to kick goals from outside 50. Also he could play a supporting role
through handball and his game at ground level.
Hargraves had a powerful physique. 191 centimetres and 94
kilograms. At the age of 19 he made his debut in round 10 1994. Joined an elite
band because his first senior kick was a goal. Gave an outstanding
performance in a reserves preliminary final where he scored 13 goals.
Round 15 1995 versus West Coast at Subiaco was one of his best games. Early in
the second quarter in a melee he hit the ball over the back into space. Osborne
sauntered in for an easy goal. Later he took a great mark at the 55 meters out
and booted through a beauty.
In round 17 he rattled the Hawk defence by playing on and kicking a curling goal
from 40. He showed great courage in the third qualifying final versus Geelong.
In the first quarter Hargraves set himself for a mark knowing he was going to
get polaxed. He was but he got up and goaled 10 minutes later.
His form was a little erratic and we was traded to the Dockers.
