Recruited St Albans
Honours One of the best Half back flankers and gutsiest players we ever had.
Second in the Club's Best and Fairest 1994.
Steven (Kritter or Krusher) was one of the club's greatest defenders of the era around the turn of the millennium. It seemed as though the longer he played the better he got.
We have a lot to thank Steven's dad for. He bribed Steven to come along to play for the Bulldogs. Steven never thought that he had much natural talent but he was wrong. He had a ton of talent. His record speaks for itself. Often he has had to play as a key-position player, and more often against the opposition's best forward. He had to man champions such as Gary Ablett, Jason Dunstall, Matthew Lloyd and Garry Lyon. Along with the taller Rohan Smith, Kretiuk was the other key defender in the Dogs’ successful 90s line-up, when the club played 13 finals in seven years. Kritter was a lot shorter in height than most of his opponents but beat them anyway.
He was never intimidated by the bigger players, he was the intimidator. Anybody that started to try to shove him around soon realised that they had made a mistake. Essendon's Matthew Lloyd, about twice as big as Kritter found his once broken hand getting a work-over after trying to intimidate.
He really worked hard to make something of himself, and it paid off. He
suffered with ham-string and soft-tissue injuries, but pain was no stranger to
him.
He was a model player for the side. He was an honest, courageous, loyal and
dedicated player. He had pride in his performance. He gave his all and then came
back and gave some more. He is the type of player that we want around the club.
Very popular with the fans.
