Signed up when he was only 16. Known to his fans as 'The Rocket'. He was a tough back pocket player with the muscles to go with it. He was nicknamed Rocket having the first name and then nickname of Rod 'The Rocket' Laver. | ||
The Macpherson brothers, Rod and Stephen were a formidable combination on and off the field. Both were hard ball players. They would back each other up and were a formidable combination. Those boys enjoyed a bit of a skirmish. Rod was very nuggety and popular with the fans. | ||
Rod was was sent up North to Brisbane to make up a team for Brisbane when they started up. | ||
Rod had terrible luck with injuries that certainly curtailed his senior appearances. Three knee reconstructions and an ankle reconstruction. The second knee injury after seven consecutive games with Brisbane was particularly hard to come to terms with. It resulted in two years out of the game and terminated his League career. | ||
