Nickname 'Magic'. A fast and skilful winger who played in the 80's. Had a good year for the Bulldogs in 1984. Of aboriginal descent. In one of his first games against Melbourne at the 'G' he kicked the winning goal.

One day, I think it was in '86, at Windy Hill an Essendon supporter standing behind me said to his mate "Watch this bloke, just watch what he does with the ball". MacLean and his opponent ran toward a loose ball, Magic stuck out his foot, stopped the ball with the end of his boot, waited until his opponent had run past him, collected the ball, turned around and took of down the field. He was 60 metres away before his opponent worked out what had happened.

The Essendon supporter said to his mate "Told Ya"

Think Magic played 2 games in 1990 from memory. I remember watching him hobble off the field in what was to be his last game for us. I remember feeling shattered and had this feeling that might be it. A bad ankle injury.

Went to the Brisbane Bears with the first pick of the 91 pre-season draft. He won a couple of best and fairests and did a lot for that club to bring it respectability. We got nothing for him.

From Millner school. He became assistant coach of Brisbane Lions. In the AFL, McLean became renowned as a mentor for Aboriginal players from all clubs.
