Very fast wingman. I remember playing on him one day, all
that I saw was a blur weaving from here to there. He was here, he was there
and there was a blur in between. |

Sometimes played on taller forwards on a half back flank.
Lost some form in the early 70's but came back strongly and became one of
the club's most consistent players. First season
played as a rover then as a wingman for the next 100-odd games then later as
a half-back flanker. His fearless play was an inspiration. |

See the picture of Steve up above. War wounds, cut

Prior to joining the Dogs he was an amateur
athlete, a 400 meter hurdles runner, running second in the Victorian
Championships and third in the Australian Championships. He was the
Victorian 440 hurdles Champion. Had Olympic Games
aspirations. It was said that because of his amateur status he played for
the Doggies for no pay - some monies going into a trust. |
