He was a professional runner and made the final of the
Stawell Gift. His father Bob Spargo was also a professional runner and ran
in two Stawell Gifts. Bob played for the Bulldogs from 1934 to 1941. Ricky,
Robert's younger brother also played from 1966. |

Played originally on the half forward flank then went
into the centre. Was a brilliant centre man, very fast. |

He was long striding and loping and had a long
penetrating kick. He liked to run and bounce the ball and leave his
