Footscray

Western Bulldogs At the age of 16 he lined up for his first game at half forward (same age as Ted). With his first kick he had a shot at goal (same as Ted), but he missed and got a point. But, the umpire had a sense of occasion and noted that the man on the mark had overstepped and he gave Alan another kick. Alan put that one through.

Alan was a strong mark and an accurate kick and would often play in the centre or on a wing. He was a favourite player and the fans were sad to see him transfer to Essendon in 1980.

He could kick well with either foot, pin-pointing passes and could take the big mark. Often played as a ruck rover or half-forward. Used his great pace to advantage.
