Club Captain 1989. Team of the Century nominee.
Club coach for one match (that he won). |
|
|
Was nurtured early at Leongatha by their coach Colin Boyd, who was a
Bulldogs player and Ian (Sock-eye) Salmon, also a Bulldogs player. Clever elusive and speedy centre payer and
midfielder who usually played a very good game. When he turned on the pace
his back arched stiff. Broke his leg in an Army Reserve/ Commodore Cup game
at Lakeside Oval when he first started. In 1993 due to injury, he had to
stay out for 8 matches. He was heavily tagged once the opposition knew how
good he was so he changes his game to be bothe a tagger himself and a
ball-winner. |

Steve Wallis was another player in the man's man style
like Peter Foster. Handed out some great shirt fronts including the one on
Brett Heady that sparked the brawl with West Coast in 1994.
One day at the Western Oval playing against the Swans we had suffered a
number of injuries to our forward line. Steve Wallis who was already off the
ground injured was sent back on to stand at full forward. As I recall it 3
kicks 3 goals on one leg and we got up in a low scoring game.

Will always remember his last game against Essendon and
him and Bernard Toohey being carried off on the players shoulders. |

A real clubman a Bulldog legend. Surrendered the
captaincy to Doug Hawkins in order to engender greater support for the club. |
